GIANT WAVES

This song is deeply personal, I started writing it back when I was in Venezuela, drawing from my experiences and emotions during that time. I grew up in a conservative Latin society and I always felt the pressure to fit in, I felt like drifting from the norm and coming out of the closet was going to bring stares, judgment and exclusion, to say the least, it felt impossible to do. The attraction I felt for women got to a point that it felt like an inevitable, irresistible and towering giant wave. I found myself caught between social pressure and my own desire, my own identity. I could have viewed this immense wave as a disaster, threatening to overwhelm me, rolling me over as it clashed against heteronormativity and judgment. Instead, I was ready to ride the wave, flowing in its current and letting it carry me forward as a powerful, transformative force, trusting that it will take me to a place of authenticity and freedom. I hope this song resonates with anyone who’s felt the same struggle and shines a light on the silent battles faced by many.

DON'T LOOK BACK

“Don’t Look Back” is my raw, heart-wrenching journey through immigration, specifically from sunny Venezuela to the vast, cold landscapes of Canada. Making this song helped me cope with the grief of what this process meant to me. I imagined having a conversation with the spirits of Canada’s first inhabitants, tapping into their ancestral wisdom for protection and guidance. They echo “Don’t look back,” a mantra for pushing me to keep moving forward into the unknown.

The music and lyrics are like a time machine, transporting me back to those intense moments of sacrifice and bravery, where I had to leave everything I knew. “Don’t Look Back” captures the bitter and sweet essence of immigration, I wanted to paint a vivid picture of resilience, hope, and the relentless human spirit. It’s my personal story but the story of many… a narrative of change and discovery, and I invite you to let the music carry you through this transformative process.

BETTER THAN GOOD

“Better Than Good” is an empowering song that serves as a reminder that we can transcend the mundane routines of daily life. In a world where the 9 to 5 grind and the stresses of city living can leave us feeling disconnected and overwhelmed, this song encourages us to remember that we are more than the sum of our daily tasks.

With soaring guitar solos, uplifting beats, and layered synths, “Better Than Good” creates an energetic vibe that invites us to reconnect with our passions and make time for the things that truly matter. By prioritizing the things that bring us joy and fulfillment, we can not only reconnect with ourselves, but also with those around us.

In a city like Toronto, where time seems to disappear and everyone is rushing and distracted, this message is especially important. “Better Than Good” reminds us that despite the chaos of daily life, we have the power to create moments of connection and meaning, and that those moments are what truly make life worth living.

and producer

La Clem is a solo artist based in Toronto with roots in Caracas, Venezuela. As a solo act, she aims to challenge conventional norms by pushing boundaries, it’s not a traditional band, nor a DJ, it’s a mix that blurs the lines between genres, seamlessly blending dance-rock and synth-pop into her music.

Her first album “This Is not a band” released in 2012 embodied this vision. Using an MPC and guitar loop pedals for live performances, she crafts a unique sonic experience, her sound features melodic bluesy guitar solos with an electronic heartbeat. She released a single back in April 2023 called “Better Than Good,” a heartfelt reflection on breaking free from the 9 to 5 grind and transcending the mundane through art and “Don’t look back” in November 2023 capturing the bittersweet essence of immigration, taking listeners on a poignant journey of resilience, hope, and the relentless human spirit.

Now, she’s back with her latest track, ‘Giant Waves’. This deeply personal synth-pop song, inspired by her experiences in conservative Venezuela, explores the intense emotions and societal pressures she faced growing up. Her attraction to women felt like an inevitable, towering wave, which she ultimately embraced as a transformative force leading her to authenticity and freedom.

These singles give you a sneak peek into what’s brewing for her upcoming album, one of many chapters in her evolving musical story.
